Kids ages five and up can enjoy learning how to make “Frito Pie” during Kids Cook at the Ketchikan Public Library beginning at 3:00pm. This cooking demonstration class offers recipes for home cooking and plenty of helping and tasting fun. “Frito Pie” is a traditional kid favorite from the Southwest where corn chips are layered with chili, cheese and other toppings in a bowl. The AEYC (Association for the Education of Young Children), Wells Fargo, Rural Cap, First Book and the public library present the fifth season of Family Night beginning at 5:30pm. Come to the library for an early childhood program, pizza dinner and a free book. Space is limited so free tickets must be picked up in advance in the children’s library. This month the library will welcome BMI Joshua Bartlett, MKI Chris Taylor and FN Aiden Leddy from the Coast Guard who will talk about Boating Safety for kids. |

Montana writer of fiction and non-fiction for young people, Sneed Collard III will do a slide show and reading about his many outdoor adventures beginning at 6:30pm in the Ketchikan Public Library. Sneed has written dozens of books including The Governor's Dog is Missing - Slate Stephens Mysteries, Hangman's Gold (#2 in Slate Stephens Mysteries), Dog Sense, Double Eagle and Flash Point . Join us immediately following Story Hour at 10:30am for the Ketchikan premier of “ Babies on Track ” a 14-minute DVD for parents from Best Beginnings in Anchorage, accompanied by two baby board books:
- Our Alaska Family (photographs of baby faces)
- Let’s Talk Alaska! (Alaska objects).
Using delightful images of Alaska babies on location around the state, the video and books foster early learning and healthy brain development at home in easy, convenient ways. 7,500 sets of the DVD and board books will be distributed free throughout Alaska to families with children under 2. |
