Loan Policy

Most library items (books, magazines, CDs, audiobooks) are checked out for three weeks and may be renewed once for an additional three week period, provided another patron has not placed a hold on the item. You may renew items in person, by phone during open hours, or online through the First City Libraries web site. Videos check out for one week (7 days) and cannot be renewed. The fine for overdue videos is $1.00 per day, per video, up to $5.00 for each late video. If non-video items become one week overdue, a first notice is sent and a fine of .70 cents per book is charged. An additional .10 cents is added each day, up to $3.00 per book.

Lost Items: Library patrons are billed for the replacement cost of overdue items when videos are 14 days overdue and all other materials are 28 days overdue. Most Lost items are replaced after 6 months. Very new or high demand items may be replaced sooner. No credit will be granted for Lost materials returned after they have been replaced or deleted from the library system. Out-of-print or hard to find items will be considered for reinclusion into the collection on a case by case basis.
